History

We started in 2004 as a software and technology company. Remote data acquisition was on our service list early on, next to software, web, and product development. Today we bring all of that together for operations in hard places: the software, the connection, and the data.

John Daharsh, founder and CEO

I'm John Daharsh, and I run Western Ascent. I've been writing code since 1986. I have 16+ years in utility-scale solar software, 15+ as Director of Software Engineering, and I've held global IT director and global cybersecurity director roles. At a utility-scale solar technology company, I've led the teams that brought 2 GW+ of utility-scale PV power electronics onto telemetry and control systems, central and remote, with over 200 million data points collected daily, for more than a decade. I've run field ops configuring remote wireless comms worldwide and set up multiple global Starlink backhauls, and I've worked inside NERC CIP environments and other air-gapped, high-trust settings. I've also led software for data acquisition, command and control, and monitoring of utility-scale PV power electronics, including SCADA integrations. At Western Ascent, we put all of it in one outfit. When I'm not on a site, I'm bow hunting or fishing somewhere far off.
